SEOUL – Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) chief and South Korea’s foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha spoke via telephone on Monday to further discussed ways to better cooperate amid the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Kang, the country is looking for ways that would allow businesspeople from Asean member states to have a special entry to enable essential economic activities.
South Korea is currently implementing entry restrictions over the COVID-19 outbreak to lessen the spread of the infection and are now looking for exemptions to help support businesses on the Asean region.
Kang called for the Asean secretariat to take an active role in the unity and cooperation of each Asean nations on the fight against Covid-19. South Korea is will to expand cooperation with the region in health related field. An initiative is being pushed by the Korean government to boost ties with the Asean nations.
Secretary General Lim Jock Hoi agreed that Asean and South Korea should strengthen cooperation and work closely to boost economies impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Lim also took the time to thank South Korea for the $5 million aid to the Asean countries for the test kits and gears.
