Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency that operates without the need for a central authority like a bank or government. Created in 2009 by an anonymous individual or group using the name Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin allows peer-to-peer transactions through a secure and transparent blockchain network. Each transaction is verified by network nodes via cryptography and recorded on a public ledger known as the blockchain. Unlike traditional currencies, Bitcoin is limited in supply only 21 million coins will ever exist making it deflationary by design.
