The Singtel network blackout seems as a complete disconnection with reality in the world when our life is attached to our smartphone. Thousands of Singaporeans were also woken up to no service bars on March 16, 2026, as Singtel suffered one of its most huge network outages since the network provider launched its services. Be it you were attempting to get a Grab, pay your lunch with your NETS, or be in an important Zoom meeting, the outage has had a domino effect on the Little Red Dot.
This is all you need to understand about the outage, how it happened, and how you may restore your online connection.
The incident started around 10:30 AM, and the feeds on Downdetector had soared a few minutes afterward. This was not only affecting the main mobile users of Singtel, but it spilled over into the subsidiary networks such as GOMO as well as key digital payment terminals around the island.
Most people did not notice anything wrong with the phone but rather could not afford it. Large supermarkets and hawker centers have had QR code payment problems and NETS terminal headaches, and many people were forced to find an ATM, and are all reminded of how addicted we have all become to a fast and steady mobile network connection.
Singtel officially announced that it was a technical problem inside the company, and it has denied rumours of a cyberattack. Although the technical hitch was determined by early afternoon, it is a complicated operation recalling millions of users to online servers at once, and occasioned the introduction of a phenomenon known as a bottleneck waiting which has made many of them still in the SOS-only mode deep into adulthood.
In case Singtel has declared that it has reinstated the services but you continue getting the no service message, then follow these steps to coerce your phone to reconnect:
The Hard Restart: It is not necessary to lock your screen. Completely shut down your phone, allow it to stand 30 seconds and restart it. This compels this device to re-handshake with the closest active cell tower.
Toggle Airplane Mode: Airplane Mode can be used by applying Airplane Mode in your control center and it takes a simple swipe of 10 seconds to turn on, and 10 seconds to turn off. It reinstates the network searching protocol without rebooting.
Reset Network settings: In iPhones ( Settings: General: Transfer or Reset: Reset Network settings ) or Androids, this removes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth data saved; though it usually clears bugs in cellular connections that are difficult to fix.
Check Your APN Settings: Sometimes, there might be a massive failure that disoriented your Access Point Name (APN) settings. Make sure they still remain to default Singtel settings.
Manually Choose 4G/LTE: When the 5G network is overloaded at the time of the restoration process you can stabilize your connection by going to your settings manually and enabling 4G instead of 5G as the cellular data connection.
According to the latest update that took place on the afternoon of March 16, Singtel is gradually recovering its services. The majority of the users where most of them are would have gone back online except in some regional pockets which will lag occasionally.
Because GOMO, as well as a number of other MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators), share infrastructure that is operated by Singtel, it automatically implies that any potential major disconnection in the parent network automatically discourages these sub-brands.
Historically, Singtel has provided data rebates or Free weekend data after the disruption has occurred. They will make an official announcement on their official facebook and X platforms.
The incident that occurred on March 16th was mostly a target on the mobile data and voice services. The majority of home Wi-Fi and fiber-to-the-home connections did not vary during the day.
In times of outages, attempt to access a Wi-Fi internet connection (such as Wireless@SG) in a location with free Wi-Fi in order to transact any digital payments, or have at least a little bit of hard currency in order to meet an emergency.
