Bonjour, Terrasses! Paris Welcomes 4,000 New Summer Hangouts

Parisians and visitors alike will soon have access to thousands of new cafe terraces, as 4,000 new summer terraces are scheduled to open throughout the French metropolis.

On April 1, Parisians may anticipate a proliferation of new outdoor dining alternatives to appear on the city’s sidewalks, streets, and parks. The new terraces are part of a revitalization plan for Parisian cafes and restaurants, which have struggled in recent years due to the pandemic.

Officials of the city hope that the new terraces would not only assist businesses recover from the economic slowdown brought on by the pandemic, but also offer Parisians a safe and enjoyable venue to congregate and mingle outdoors.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo stated, “We know that Parisians love to socialize, eat and drink together, and enjoy the city’s beautiful public spaces. By expanding outdoor dining options, we hope to provide people with a safe and pleasurable way to engage in all of these activities.”

The new terraces will be positioned in various parts of the city, including tourist hotspots such as the Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower, as well as in residential districts. Many of the terraces will be situated on streets that have been closed to vehicular traffic, so enhancing the pedestrian experience.

Both company owners and consumers have appreciated the initiative. “This is exactly what we need to bring customers back after a difficult year,” said Jean-Pierre, the proprietor of a cafe in the Marais neighborhood. We are excited to welcome guests back to our terrace and provide them with a safe and pleasurable experience.

The city has implemented steps to safeguard the safety of clients, including the requirement that masks be worn when not seated at a table and the restriction of the number of individuals permitted per table.

The new summer terraces are only one of the numerous ways Paris is attempting to recover from the pandemic. In addition to offering financial aid and canceling taxes for struggling cafes and restaurants, the city has also enacted steps to support local companies.

With the opening of the new terraces, Parisians and tourists can anticipate a summer of outdoor dining, socializing, and enjoying the city’s cultural offers.
