MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday, June 5, that almost six million students enrolled in public and private schools for the 2020-21 school year.
According to DepEd, a total of 5,995,962 students in both public and private schools nationwide have registered from June 1 to June 15. It is less than a fifth of almost 28M students enrolled last year. Region 4-A or CALABARZON topped the list with around 1,283,358 enrollees while Cordillera Administrative Region is the lowest at 38,853.
The DepEd has advised the school to conduct alternative enrollment methods like through social media and other online platform amid the coronavirus pandemic. They will also allow the enrollees to physically register in the last two weeks of June while observing physical distancing and other health and safety protocols.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones has recently announced that schools may opt for an alternative learning option such as Learning Resources portal and DepEd Commons, TV, Radio and other digital modules for the incoming school year.
Distance learning will play a pivotal role of learning delivery as lessons will be delivered outside the usual face to face school setup. The 2020-21 school year will start on August 24 until end of April 2021.
