Disney’s ‘Snow White’ Reboot Struggles at Box Office Following Controversies and Backlash

Snow White delivered weak theater earnings and faced harsh business reviews from its March 21, 2019 release. The flop performance of Disney’s Snow White indicates it cannot recover the $270 million investment spent to create this film.

Box Office Performance Falls Short:

The director, Marc Webb, the film has made $84.5 million US revenue alongside $100.3 million worldwide for a total sales below $185 million. Senior figures in our field do not think the film will make enough money from its recent results.

Audiences and critics reacted negatively to the movie and it shows a bad 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Most reviews of this production call it poorly planned and indicate that Gadot did not very good job playing the Queen.

Controversy and Review Bombing:

The movie has struggled against different important issues.

  • IMDb noticed suspicious voting patterns when people added many negative ratings, which made the film score 1.6 out of 10
  • Theaters in Lebanon decided to prohibit the movie when Gal Gadot appeared onscreen.
  • Palestinian movements BDS and PACBI launched non-violent boycotts against Gal Gadot because she publicly backed Israel in October 2023.
  • People started to criticize the choice of Zegler as lead performer right from the beginning.
