The Department of Health (DOH) has reported 45 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19), taking the country’s number of cases to 187.
The DOH has yet to provide further information on the 45 new confirmed cases. So far the number of deaths associated with COVID-19 has remained at 12.
Meanwhile, another patient who has recovered from the disease takes the total number of cases recovered to four.
The recovered patient is a man from Negros Oriental who is a 31-year-old Filipino.
He is one of the two repatriates from the cruise ship MV Diamond Princess that was docked off Yokohama, Japan.
Last March 9th he tested positive for the virus. But on Wednesday, he tested negative twice for COVID-19 and will be discharged within the day.
Most people with COVID-19 are able to recover because their symptoms are mild, including fever and cough. But for others, the disease may be more severe, likely leading to pneumonia, particularly for older adults and those with established health problems.
The World Health Organization announced the disease as a global pandemic after it killed almost 5,000 people worldwide and infected 110,000 others.
The International Committee on Virus Taxonomy classified SARS-CoV-2 as the novel coronavirus.
