On Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, people usually gather with family in their house or relative’s house. Conditions are different, of course, with people who are serving sentences in detention.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) opens an online visiting service for families of prisoners of corruption cases during the Eid al-Adha 1441 Hijri tomorrow, Friday, July 31.

Acting KPK Enforcement Spokesman Ali Fikri said this step was taken to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus (Covid-19) and not eliminating the right of detainees to be visited especially during holidays.

“The visiting service uses an online visit system,” Ali said through a written statement, Thursday, July 30.

Ali said the online visit time was given for three hours at 08.00-11.00 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

He further said, that in this online visit the prisoners’ families were in their respective homes. So there is no physical presence in the detention center.

Each family, he said, would later contact each detention center’s call center first.

Furthermore, the officer will verify and arrange the schedule of online visits in the form of long-distance video interactions.

“The family makes a call for verification, then the detention officer will arrange it. They have 30 minutes via zoom and/or WhatsApp call,” Ali explained.

Then, other facilities, the families of KPK detainees are given time to deliver food with special food boxes for detainees which will begin at 08.00 WIB until 09.00 WIB.

“For food delivery, use a small box for each prisoner and an additional one large box per detention center. The filling box is only for food, “Ali said.

Then, the KPK also provides freedom for prisoners to be able to eat together. However, it must still comply with the health protocol.

“Eating together by detainees can be carried out in each detention center but must still follow the health protocol at 09.30 to 11.00 WIB,” Ali said.

The Eid al-Adha prayer will be held at the KPK Pomdam Jaya Guntur Detention Center with preachers and prayer leaders who will be filled by prisoners.
