Elections: Multi-racial contest for Subang Jaya in Selangor

It will be a multi-racial contest for Subang Jaya in Selangor in the upcoming state polls, with its candidates representing Malaysia’s three different main ethnicities.

Michelle Ng Mei Sze, a Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Subang Jaya from Pakatan Harapan-DAP (Democratic Action Party), Gana Pragasam Sebastian from Perikatan Nasional-Bersatu, and Zayd Shaukat Ali from Malaysian United Democratic Alliance, will fight for Selangor’s Subang Jaya (N31) state seat.

Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, Selangor Subang Jaya constituency returning officer, announced the names of the election candidates at the nomination center at Kompleks 3K, SS13, Subang Jaya, at about 10.40am on Saturday.

The Kinrara (N30) state seat will see a fight between Ng Sze Han, a Member of the Selangor State Executive Council in the Pakatan Harapan state administration, and Wong Yong Kang from PN – Bersatu.

Around 123,782 registered voters in Kinrara are set to vote in the upcoming elections. There are 111,970 registered voters in Subang Jaya.

Six key states will head to the polls in August. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim‘s coalition government will face its first public vote during the upcoming election.

Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah will head to polls on August 12.

Last week, the Malaysian prime minister said that the voters in the upcoming six state elections can reject politicians who were cruel to the people. He also said, “If I betray the people, reject me. If I do not take care of the Malaysians, reject me.”

The Malaysian prime minister, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said that the voters must evaluate negative behaviours of the politician during the upcoming elections on August 12.

He also urged voters to vote for candidates from the Pakatan and Barisan Nasional unity. He expressed hope that the upcoming state polls would be great for the country.
