Filipino tennis prodigy Alex Eala has been seeded number one at the 2025 Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal which represents another stepping stone in her career. The 19 year old is the highest ranked player in the draw which demonstrates her consistent solid performances on the global circuit.

Eala’s rise in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings has been impressive. Following a finish to the 2024 season at No. 149 she reached a career best No. 138 in early 2025 after a semifinal appearance at the Workday Canberra International. Her good run continued at the Miami Open where she claimed a milestone win over world No. 2 Iga Swiatek reaching her first WTA semifinal.

Alex Eala being the top seed at Oeiras shows not just her ranking, but perhaps her intent to pursue the title. The tournament also presents an opportunity to further rise in the rankings and join the upper position of women’s tennis.

Under training at the Rafa Nadal Academy since 2018 Eala has sharpened her skill under the experienced professionals which has played a key role in her progress. Her path from being a promising young player to a top seeded pro speaks volumes about her commitment and the increasing visibility of Filipino competitors on the world stage.

As the Oeiras Ladies Open progresses everyone’s eyes will be on Eala to determine whether she will take advantage of her head honours and carry on her brilliant run in the 2025 season.
