Some of the government’s measures to help the general public and the business sector hit by the COVID-19 pandemic include the three monthly payments of 5,000 baht to workers and farmers, as well as the suspension of loan payments. The Ministry of Finance is now preparing the third phase of its COVID-19 relief package.

Agencies under the administration of the Ministry of Finance and financial institutions have set up a “No One Left Behind” team to survey and evaluate the impact caused by the pandemic on members of the public and to assess their needs. The team is gathering information from people on low incomes and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The government will use the information to launch new assistance measures to help different sectors recover from the crisis. The Finance Minister, Uttama Savanayana, said the ministry will set up a finance clinic to receive people’s complaints regarding financial issues, jobs and informal debt. People can submit their complaints and seek advice at state-run specialized financial institutions (SFIs) nationwide. They will also launch new loan products to help all types of customers.

The President of the Government Savings Bank (GSB), Chatchai Payuhanaveechai, said his bank plans to offer a number of low-interest loans, worth 40 billion baht, to help people create jobs and earn a living. The bank’s soft loans will aid entrepreneurs in the export and tourism sectors, helping them overcome various challenges.
