Indonesia has officially emerged as the frontrunner for business travel in the Asia-Pacific region for 2026, capturing a dominant 27% share of the market according to the latest Agoda Travel Outlook Report. This boom is driven by a strong after-pandemic consolidation of structures and a huge inflow of foreign capital in the areas of digital services and the new capital, Nusantara. The victory is however not only regarding the meetings. The real frontier of the regional battle has moved to the concept of bleisure, or smooth integration of work and luxurious individual leisure activities, which makes the time after the last meeting is the most competitive aspect of the local hospitality sector.
The rise of business travel in the archipelago is supported by improved infrastructure and mature regulatory frameworks. Big destinations such as Jakarta and Bali are not only destinations anymore, but also strategic locations of multinational companies. As the business environment of 2026 intends to support long-term commitment, the nation is winning the battle of establishing as the main entry point of Southeast Asian corporate growth.
While getting executives into the country is the first step, the real competition for business travel revenue begins after the suitcase is packed. More than 76 percent of the professionals have now intentions to stay longer. In an effort to outcompete their regional competitors such as Thailand and the Philippines, Indonesia is placing emphasis on the so-called premium tourism packages, which include East Java cultural experience and wellness resorts whereby tourists can get the ideal work-life balance after leaving the hotel.
