‘Mañanita cop’ Debold Sinas appointed as the new PNP chief

METRO MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Police Major Gen. Debold Sinas as the next Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief.

It was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque during his regular Malacañang press briefing today.

Sinas will be succeeding General Camilo Cascolan of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Sinagtala Class of 1986 who is scheduled to retire on Tuesday. Sinas’ appointment will take effect on Tuesday, November 10.

The newly appointed PNP Chief is a part of the PMA Hinirang Class of 1987, is the first appointment of Duterte aside from the 1986 class. He was a regional director on the Central Visayas PNP before his appointment as the Metro Manila’s top cop.

Sinas, earlier this year, made a buzz after posting photos of his birthday party showing a number of policemen violating the health protocols amid the strict implementation of quarantine protocols during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The controversy resulted on calls for his resignation as well as criminal and administrative complaints against Sinas himself and 18 other police officers. President Duterte defended Sinas and kept him from his post despite outraged over the violations of quarantine protocols.
