Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Anwar Makarim promised to provide subsidized internet quota for students and teachers. The allocated budget reaches Rp 7.2 trillion. This allowance is provided to support distance learning or Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh (PJJ) during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Internet quota subsidy for students, teachers, college students, and lecturers for 4 months. Students get 35 GB/month, teachers 42 GB/month, college students and lecturers each get 50 GB/month,” said Nadiem at the House of Representatives, Thursday, August 27.

“So far we have been doing internal sales within the government. And Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), we got support for the allowances for our students in this PJJ period,” said Nadiem in the meeting room of Commission IX, DPR Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 27.

During PJJ, Nadiem admitted getting many reports from parents and students in financing internet quotas. According to him, this problem is more common to happen than the students who do not have gadgets.

Nadiem also cannot specify when the internet quota will be distributed. However, he said the Ministry of Education and Culture encourages that the credit allowance for students, lecturers, and college students can be distributed immediately.

On that occasion, Nadiem also thanked the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani for granted the Ministry of Education and Culture’s request to provide a budget for credit allowance.

In addition to the credit allowance, Nadiem said that the Ministry of Education and Culture has also secured additional recipients of the professional allowance for teachers, and educational personnel to professional allowances for lecturers and professors for Rp 1,7 trillion.
