Mount Ruang Erupts and the Volcanic Ash Spreads Over the Three Districts

Mount Ruang is an active volcanic mountain which is located in Ruang island, from the given information that Mt.Ruang has erupted for thirteen times. On Tuesday, a thick black smoke erupted from the volcanic mountain, Mt.Ruang and the intimidating video has been circulated virally on the social media along with the warning for the people who are living around it.

The smoke has spread into the sky and the borders of the three districts which includes Banyuwangi, Bondowoso, and Jember. The eruption took place at 9.30WIB and the height of the spreaded ash is estimated as 2,000 meters above the peak. The seismographic observation revealed the maximum amplitude of 32mm and a duration of 282 seconds.

The eruption of Mt.Ruang has been confirmed by the Head of Sumberwringin, Probo Nugroho.

“Yes, it’s true. We ask the public to remain calm, while waiting for the latest information from BMKG and BPBD Bondowoso”.

“Information from the status of BMKG friends themselves states that this black fog is a mild eruption of Mount Ruang” said Head of BPBD Bondowoso, Sigit Purnomo. He further stated about the initial steps which will be executed by coordinating with the BMKG (Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika) while observing the movement of the black fog.

“We will distribute masks, the first step. We will see which way the wind blows”, Sigit added. 

As the panic grows stronger among the citizens the respective officials are representing the media to circulate the proper information to everyone. Mukijo the PPGA Raung Officer stated,

“We recommend that the public or tourists do not approach the eruption center in the peak crater within a radius of 3 kilometers. This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 32 mm and a duration of approximately 4 minutes 42 seconds”.

At present, Mt.Ruang has been alerted with the level II status.
