Banyuwangi will host the World Surf League (WSL) in July 2021. Its location on Plengkung Beach or better known as G-land, located in the Alas Purwo National Park, Banyuwangi Regency, East Java.

Plengkung Beach waves have a height reaching 6-8 meters and a length of 2 kilometers, making it a favorite destination for surfers. Plengkung Beach waves even ranked second after Hawaii for the category of the seven best waves in the world.

Currently, Banyuwangi is preparing to host the WSL. Because this agenda is believed to be able to boost the number of tourist visits.

Looking at that plan, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, supports it.

“Later we also want to support G-land because of the WSL in July next year. We still have about one year to prepare it and we hope that by that time COVID-19 will be reduced so that more people come to Indonesia,” he said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 30.

With preparations made by Banyuwangi, Luhut also supports the reopening of the city’s tourism in the new normal era while still paying attention to existing health protocols. He praised the successful handling of Covid-19 in Banyuwangi which is expected to support the recovery of local tourism.

He also praised the successful handling of COVID-19 in Banyuwangi which is expected to support the recovery of local tourism.

“Why is Banyuwangi good, because in my opinion, Anas as the Banyuwangi Regent is able to collaborate and not work individually, so it is more efficient. The economy and COVID-19 are interrelated. If COVID-19 handling is good, then the economy is good also,” he added.
