Ramadan 2023 Expected to Begin on Thursday in Malaysia

According to the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, it is anticipated that Malaysia would declare Thursday, March 23, 2023 as the first day of Ramadan 2023. (JAKIM.)

According to a study published in a daily newspaper published in India that uses English as its primary language, the Hindustan Times, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Pakistan, South Africa, and Indonesia will most likely see the Ramadan moon on the evening of March 22.

“The first day of Ramadan fasting for them will be March 23,” the news outlet said, emphasizing that if the crescent moon was not sighted, the first day of Ramadan would begin on March 24 in India and other South Asian countries. “The first day of Ramadan fasting for them will be March 23,” the news outlet said.

Throughout the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, during which time they abstain from eating and drinking. The length of this fast varies from 29 to 30 days, depending on when they see the crescent moon.

“Islam is constitutionally the country’s official religion, with the freedom to practice other religions,” the Islamic Tourism Centre said, referring to Malaysia’s population of 28 million people. According to Malaysia’s Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), approximately 60 percent of the country’s population is comprised of Muslims.

It is anticipated that other nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Singapore, Turkey, and Turkey, will likewise declare Thursday, March 23, 2023 as the first day of Ramadan 2023.

On the other hand, the first day of Ramadan is likely to be observed by members of the Muslim community in Germany on March 22.

On the evening of Wednesday, March 22, Morocco will likely conduct the crescent moon sighting that is required for the holy month of Ramadan.

Several astronomers are of the opinion that the month-long fasting practice known as Ramadan will begin in Morocco on March 23.
