On Tuesday, Thailand mall shooting took place. The incident killed two people and injured 5 others. Kanchana Patarachoke, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand spokesperson, said that three Thai citizens, a Chinese national and a Laos national were brutally injured because of the shooting incident at the mall.
On Wednesday, a 14 year old boy was arrested over the Thailand mall shooting. Police Major General Nakarin Sukhonthawit said that the teenage boy was arrested from Pathum Wan police station. Later on, he was also sent to a juvenile court in Bangkok.
The teenager reportedly suffered a psychological breakdown. The authorities wanted to keep him at a mental health facility. However, the court turned down the police request. The court ordered the authorities to keep him in juvenile detention.
The teenager has been charged with six counts, including premeditated murder. The teen suspected of shooting at the mall faces charges like illegal possession of a firearm, the illegal carrying of a firearm in public, attempted murder, and illegal discharge of a firearm in public.
The boy is suffering from mental health issues. It is still not known how the boy obtained the weapon used in the shooting.
Police Major General Nakarin Sukhonthawit said, “These kinds of modified guns are widely available on the internet, we are investigating where he purchased this gun.”
Thai Police General Torsak Sukvimol said that the teenager “surrendered himself” after killing the two people at the mall. The boy received treatment for his mental illness at Rajavithi Hospital.
Police Captain Thanamorn Noonart said that the teenager threw his gun away after seeing the police officers. He said, “I didn’t want to use force against him.”
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said that the authorities would adopt measures for gun control in the country.
