Thailand was a standout at the Singapore Badminton Open because their athletes won both major titles on Sunday. Vitidsarn won the menâs singles final convincingly over Lu, taking home a 21-6, 21-10 victory which took no more than 37 minutes.
The victory makes it Kunlavutâs fourth title this season and gets him closer to claiming the top world ranking when standings are updated next week. By accomplishing this, he would be the first teenager born in the 2000s to become menâs singles champion.
There was another Thai victory in mixed doubles as Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran claimed the championship by defeating Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet.
Other Championship Results
In womenâs singles at the Badminton Asian Championships, Chen Yufei of China defeated Wang Zhiyi from her country in two straight sets to pick up her fourth title of the season. In the quarterfinals, Chen showed an impressive win by ending An Se-youngâs 27-match winning run and now she has won 22 matches straight after returning to Korea.
Korean athletes managed to win some doubles matches but not all. Kim Hye-jeong and Kong Hee-yong were victorious over Japanâs Iwanaga and Nakanishi in womenâs doubles and Malaysiaâs Chia and Soh had a win over Koreaâs Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in menâs doubles.
