Three big summits in November in Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand

ASEAN – According to a joint statement made on May 4 by the foreign ministries of Cambodia, Indonesia, and Thailand, three key leaders’ summits in Southeast Asia are scheduled to take place this year.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) and Related Summits will be held in Cambodia from November 11 to 13, while the Group of 20 (G20) Summit will be held in Indonesia from November 15 to 16, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting will be held in Thailand from November 18 to 19, according to the statement.

According to Xinhua, the Asean, G20, and APEC procedures all have characteristics that present a unique opportunity for all parties to work together to promote the global and regional agenda and efforts to deliver peace, prosperity, and sustainable and inclusive development to all our peoples.

The leaders’ determination to strengthen Asean resilience in the face of global uncertainties and maintain Asean’s central role in the regional architecture is expressed in the upcoming Asean summit, according to the statement, which also states that joint efforts to recover from COVID-19 impacts will be accelerated.

The G20 summit intends to promote a robust and inclusive recovery for all, according to the statement, which also said that Indonesia is dedicated to ensuring that the G20 is important not only to its members but also to the rest of the globe, especially developing nations.

“Three key areas have been highlighted, namely enhancing global health architecture, digital transformation, and energy transitions,” according to the statement, “so that the G20 can act as a catalyst for a robust and inclusive global recovery.”

The APEC summit, a unique gathering of Asia Pacific nations, is still working on ways to promote regional economic integration and create shared prosperity, according to the statement.

The announcement said, “It strives to further the vision for an open, vibrant, resilient, and peaceful Asia-Pacific community.” According to the statement, the three Asean member nations pledged to engage with all partners and stakeholders to foster a spirit of collaboration and to promote Asean’s centrality, credibility, and relevance in sustaining regional and global peace and stability
