‘Tiger Stripes’ to represent Malaysia at Oscars 2024

Oscars 2024, or the 96th Academy Awards, will take place on 10 March, 2024. The nominations announcement will take place on 23 January, 2024. Many countries have already submitted their films at the 96th Academy Award (Oscars). Currently, the entries for the 2024 Oscar for best international feature are underway.

Malaysia, a Southeast Asian country, has submitted Tiger Stripes, a 2023 body horror film written and directed by Amanda Nell Eu, for 96th Academy Awards. The film has already been submitted for Best International Feature Film from Malaysia at the 96th Academy Award (Oscars).

Tiger Stripes at Oscars 2024

The Film Selection Committee (JKPF) of the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) selected Tiger Stripes for the nomination at Oscars 2024. 

Fahmi Fadzil, the Minister of Communications and Digital of Malaysia, said, “May this serve as a motivation for all film industry players to continue supporting the government’s mission to strengthen the country’s film industry on a global scale.”

Tiger Stripes is considered one of the best films in Malaysia. G Grrrl Pictures Sdn Bhd has produced the film. The film features Zafreen Zairizal, Piqa, Deena Ezral, Khairunazwan Rodzy, Fatimah Abu Bakar, Jun Lojong, and Shaheizy Sam.

It was the first feature film by Amanda Nell Eu. She was also the first Malaysian female director ever selected for Cannes for Tiger Stripes. In May, the film featured at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The film also won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize award at Cannes Film Festival.

The story of the feature film revolves around a 12-year-old girl. She has faced bullying because of hitting puberty. However, she fights back and embraces her transformation into a tiger-like monster.
