Two ex soldier’s jail terms increased to 12 years for plotting Najib kidnapping, terrorism

KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Court accounced today that they have enhanced the jail sentence of two ex-soldiers to 12 years for conspiring to promote terrorism-related activities over plans to kidnap the former minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Justice Puan Sri Zaleha Yusof allowed the prosection’s appeal and increased the eight-year jail sentence imposed by the Court of Appeal.

According to the prosecution, it has lost its appeal to increase Indonesian Ali Saifuddin sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.

The original sentence was handed down by the Court of Appeal last year. They, together with Ali, was accused of plotting to kidnap Najib, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin who were also ministers in the Barisan Nasional Government.

The conspired with a militant Abu Daud Murad Halimuddin with the plans of demanding a ransom in exchange for their freedom.

The suspects were detained under Sosma Act 2012 and was charged with conspiring to promote terrorism-related activity in the country between Jan 30 and April 6, 2015 at Pengkalan Batu Hampar, Mukim Air Putih, Pendang, Kedah. The crime carries the jail term of up to maximum 30 years imprisonment and a fine.
