Wisma Athlete building is ready to be used to accommodate Covid-19 Virus patients. This was conveyed by the Commander of the Joint Regional Defense Command (Pangkogabwilhan) I Vice Admiral Yudo Margono based on a survey conducted by his staff at the site of the former 2019 Asian Games athlete inn.

“Staff officers led by Kogabwilhan’s chief of staff have surveyed the athlete’s homestead to check facilities and infrastructure. Yes [in general] ready, then we will just arrange the Assistance Task Force, Health Minister (Battalion), and the Ministry of Health, Supporting Task Force and Security Task Force,” said Yudo, Friday (3/20).

Meanwhile, Jakarta Deputy Governor for Population and Settlement Control Suharti, in a meeting to discuss the handling of Covid-19 dated March 10, 2020, proposed the use of Athlete Houses to be occupied by people in monitoring (ODP) related to Corona Virus.

Separately, Member of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) Commission IX of the PKS Faction Kurniasih Mufidayati considered the use of the Athlete House as a quarantine location more realistic than building a new hospital.

“The building is ready for use and has quite a lot of space. However, it must be ensured that all rooms are sterile and suitable for treatment rooms,” Mufida said, Friday (3/20).

According to Mufida, the capacity of existing hospitals is increasingly inadequate and mixed with other patients that have the potential to increase transmission. For this reason, Wisma Athlete is focused on treating isolation for Covid-19 patients only, not for patients who are already severely ill.

He also said it would be best to avoid making all hospitals become Covid-19 Referral Hospitals. Because, it will be risky for non-Corona patients. “Like RSCM (Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital) as a National Hospital referral of all diseases, it would be better if it does not treat COVID-19 patients,” he said.
