Malacañang Palace has announced Wednesday, May 27, 2026, as a Regular Honoring Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. It was enshrined in the law by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto under the auspices of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. through Proclamation No. 1264.
The announcement of the holiday is made in accordance with the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos derived from Islamic lunar calendar for 1447 Hijrah.
Eid’l Adha is a movable religious festival as provided in Republic Act 9849, therefore the exact date will vary from year to year based on lunar computation.
Why the May 27 Holiday Trending Online?
As soon as the proclamation was made, workers, students and businesses began the search online on whether May 27 is a regular holiday or a special non-working holiday. As soon as the proclamation was issued, masses were seeing online if the May 27 is a regular holiday or it’s a special non-working holiday.
This distinction is very important as it has its relevance on the coming into effect of stricter rules under the Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE on granting labor compensation for holidays.
Full pay could be much higher on a holiday, if the employee works on a regular holiday. Some Filipinos also are picking up news about their classes being closed, banks shutting down their operations and possibly long week’s holidays linked to the midweek getaway.
Official DOLE Holiday Pay Rules for May 27, 2026
According to Philippine labor law, the Eid’l Adha is designated as a Regular Holiday all across the country. An employee who does not report to work on that day will receive 100% of his daily wages.
Any employee who is employed during the Regular Holiday must be paid: – at least 200% of his or her regular daily wage for the first 8 hours of the holiday. If you are working on the 27th of May, you are legally entitled to double pay for your shift because of DOLE holiday pay rules.
How Does the Double Pay Computation Work?
In the case of an employee who earns ₱1,000 per day, the May 27 work entitles this worker to at least ₱1,000 for 8 hours. When overtime was worked in the holiday, overtime premiums are taken in addition to the calculation of the holiday.
Night is also still night and therefore, differential pay is applicable for graveyard hours, especially for BPO staff on the night shift.
Employers should fully adhere to DOLE standards on holiday compensation, which includes payment of overtime, premium benefits, and other additional compensation.
What Happens if May 27 Falls on Your Rest Day?
The ones who had to work during a Regular Holiday, and at the same time during the Rest Day are afforded an even greater compensation. According to DOLE rules, employees get an extra 30 per cent on top of the 200 per cent holiday pay rate.
This includes employees who work on a holiday but also have a rest day – they can be paid up to 260% of their basic wage rate for the first 8 hours of work on the holiday.
This often applies to people who work in job roles such as BPO, healthcare, retail or hospitality who take on rotating shifts.
Will Government Offices, Banks, and Schools Be Closed?
The government and its agencies, as well as all public schools nationwide are expected to shut down during the holiday.
Commercial banks could also make some operational changes, while some malls might have limited access and most digital offerings would likely be up and running as per their timelines.
Delays may occur in checkout operations and interbank processing due to the Philippine banking system’s lull in processing during Regular Holidays. Business needs can dictate different operating policies for private industry and the university.
