Eight public officers have been referred to the police by Singapore after an investigation into property deals involving addresses that subsequently became MRT stations. The cases came out of a broader inquiry of 191 officers of agencies related to rail planning. The development is part of a series of announcements made by Coordinating Minister for Public Services Chan Chun Sing in Parliament on October 6, 2026.
Why Were Singapore Public Officers Referred to Police?
MRT property purchases under review
Over the last eight years (2007 to 2014), the Public Service Division (PSD) has looked at the property deals conducted by rail planners. The review period was broadened to encompass the years 2007–2011, which a recent study by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) highlighted.
The study concluded that there was a statistical connection between certain civil servants and purchasing close to planned but not yet publicly announced MRT stations. The Singapore Government, however, said that statistical patterns do not necessarily constitute misconduct.

The eight cases were deemed to be worthy of further investigation due to individual factors or lack of information to dismiss the cases, PSD said.
