The 2026 FIFA World Cup has arrived at its most crucial stage with the Round of 16. Following their successful introduction of the new 48-team format and the first round of 32, just the top teams are left competing for football’s grandest prize.

The Round of 16 is July 4th through July 7th, 2026, in iconic stadiums in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Now it is all a Ko-Tay, and losing each match means homeward bound for the teams, while winning means all the World Cup dreams have not come to an end.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 Schedule

The FIFA World Cup 2026 round of 16 schedule will be released in IST from November 10. The full fixture schedule with kick-off times in IST (Indian Standard Time), venue and latest knockout table is given below.

Final Round of 16 spots are based on a “best four” determination of the Round of 32 which do not include these matches: Argentina vs Cabo Verde, Australia vs Egypt and Colombia vs Ghana.

Round of 16 Bracket Explained

The knockout bracket is starting to show a number of potential blockbusters for the Quarter-final stages.

Canada vs Morocco will take on Paraguay or France; meanwhile, Brazil and Norway take on either Mexico or England in the next round.

However, on the other side, one of the biggest games of the tournament pits Portugal against Spain, archrival of the country. The winner will probably be in an arm wrestle if it’s the USA or Belgium-type of Quarter-final against one another, creating another heavyweight showdown.

While Switzerland waits on the arrival of the winner of Colombia-Uganda, the remaining round of 32 games with Argentina, Cabo Verde, Australia and Egypt will determine the final quarter-final.

Portugal vs Spain

This is another fiercely competitive clash between the Iberian giants, and it features all the key players on both sides. This game is brimming with world-class talent and experienced talents, which has the potential to become an early World Cup classic.

Brazil vs Norway

Trumpeting the neighbor of the world’s top soccer nation, Brazil will unfurl in the Round of 16 but has more than proved its match for the greats so far. The Scandinavian side comes out looking to strike again for a big upset.

Mexico vs England

Mexico does get a head start when they play in front of home fans but England are one of the best teams in the tournament. This fixture should be exciting and full of quality matches.

United States vs Belgium

If the United States can do a little bit more against Belgium that continues to be one of the world’s great teams, it will extend their impressive run on the tournament circuit they’ve enjoyed in recent years. This means a possible Quarter-final clash between the winner and Portugal or Spain.

How the FIFA World Cup 2026 Knockout Stage Works?

The entire tournament is played in a simple single elimination round robin format starting in the Round of 16.

There will be 30 minutes of extra time, after 90 minutes, for a match played at regulation time ends in a tie (equal points). If the game is tied after extra time, the game advances to a penalty shoot-out.
