Dalen Terry has taken a leap that put himself in the Golden State Warriors conversation after a standout showing against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 7. The fresh rotation, with Steve Kerr resting a lot of the rotation on the second night of a pair of straight games, more than made up for the absence of Steve Kerr as Terry got on the scoreboard for both offensive and defensive.
Terry scored 23 points (9-of-18) and had 4-of-8 from 3-point range. He dished out eight rebounds, nine assists and four steals, meaning he played all aspects of a game Golden State will be looking at with a stone lamb’s scrutiny as it decides on its final training camp moves.
It showcased the on-court skills that baseball teams should value in an 18th overall pick. His role being on the perimeter on the court provided him with useful size, and the same came with his play in the defensive zone, providing prospects for transition for a lot of the exhibition.
Another thing Terry proved was that he could play as an alternate ballhandler. His nine assists conveyed how he could pass efficiently in a system that relied heavily on him getting to the basket, but he could also get up, move without the ball, go to and work from pick-and-rolls to get to the basket.
In late August 2026, the Warriors inked Terry on an Exhibit 10 training camp contract. After four seasons with Chicago and Philadelphia, Terry will not be eligible for a Two-Way contract, and will need to be on the 15-man roster to stay in Golden State.
That helps to make a big roster decision in Golden State. Terry can block out several different positions on the perimeter and with his offensive play and his developing ability to shoot from three-point range, he can be a nice depth choice behind experienced guards and wings.
The Warriors will have to make a decision on working out a free spot in the future in case they need flexibility, while other players coming out of training camp and non-guaranteed contracts have a chance as well.
The weight of the scales, however, is increasing and is about to tilt with Terry’s last game, but one game is not going to decide the matter. He will see if he sticks around for Golden State’s remaining exhibition games, where he’s expected to continue to shoot 3-pointers and play good defense and low turns.
