The upcoming Selangor public holidays 2026 are some great options for extended weekends, family trips and short stay-cations. The first big break will be Merdeka Day 2026 on Monday, August 31, which will automatically become a three-day weekend for many employees. In the coming part of the year, Malaysia Day, Deepavali, Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday and Christmas are expected to be celebrated by the Selangorians later in the year. The confirmed dates are as follows, as well as the best ways of planning around them.

Selangor Public Holidays 2026: What Is Coming Next?

The official government calendar of Malaysia states that Maulidur Rasul is celebrated on Tuesday, August 25 while Hari Kebangsaan (Merdeka Day) is celebrated on Monday, August 31. Malaysia Day is on Wednesday, September 16th.

The Selangor State Government also has its official calendar of public holidays for the year of 2026 and the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia also provides information on the national and state holidays that are applicable to Selangor.

Travellers and employees can check the official Selangor 2026 holiday calendar and the Malaysia Government calendar before making bookings.

Merdeka Day 2026 Creates a Three-Day Weekend

The most convenient upcoming break is the Merdeka long weekend 2026.

If you are someone who normally takes annual leave on a Saturday and Sunday, then you could be having three days off in a row on August 31st as it’s also a Monday.

Malaysia’s 69th National Day will be celebrated in 2026. The National Day is celebrated at Dataran Putrajaya, and Selangor is celebrating the state level National Day one evening earlier.

Selangor’s Merdeka Celebration in Kajang

The ceremony of Selangor National Day will take place on Sunday, 30 August from 6 pm to midnight at Stadium Kajang.

The state programme features a parade, uniformed-body performances, cultural programmes, performances by Malaysian artists and fireworks. That’s why Sajjang got one of the most relevant places in Selangor for the residents who like to celebrate before the public holiday on Monday.

Alternatively for a weekend holiday the weekend from Saturday to Monday is also suitable for places like Kuala Selangor, Sekinchan, Shah Alam, Sepang and Hulu Selangor.

Malaysia Day and Deepavali Holidays in Selangor

Malaysia Day 2026 will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 16 after Merdeka. It will not automatically make a long weekend as it falls in the middle of the working week.

Those who would like to avail of 2 days of annual leave may use September 17 and 18 and add the weekend to that for a 5 day break.

The next big Selangor public holiday will be Deepavali on Sunday, November 8. The replacement holiday for Selangor-based institutions is also recorded on their calendar as Monday, November 9, which means that it is another three-day weekend for those affected.

Employees in the private sector should check with their employer to see which day is considered to be the applicable day for the holiday substitution.

Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday 2026 Gives Another Long Weekend

The Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday 2026 is one of the most helpful state-specific dates, which falls on Friday, Dec 11.

If you have a regular Monday to Friday working routine, Selangorites will be getting another automatic three-day weekend from Dec 11 to 13, as the end-of-year holiday is on a Friday.

The festivity is to celebrate the birth day of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Sultan of Selangor. This date is only of significance to Selangor, as opposed to all of the other public days that are national. The Sultan of Selangor’s Birthday is also listed as a holiday in Selangor in the Department of Labour public-holiday calendar.

Another convenient break comes in a few weeks later in December — Christmas Day is on Friday, Dec. 25, 2026, which means there will be another three-day weekend for those who still celebrate.
