The Sepang F1 Grand Prix 2026 is bringing F1 back to Malaysia this weekend but, for the first time, it will also be on the road. Following the Bahrain race being moved to Sepang International Circuit (SIC), the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 will take place there from October 2-4. Over two days, an estimated 200,000 spectators are anticipated, a factor that needs to be taken into account with regards to transport and traffic.

For those going to Sepang for Sunday’s race, here’s the most up-to-date Sepang F1 travel tips and info on MRT/train routes, shuttle buses, parking and road closures.

Sepang F1 Grand Prix 2026 Transport Options

Use Public Transport Where Possible

It is strongly recommended that fans do not drive to the circuit or airport without a proper parking plan. Parking at KLIA Terminal 1 and KLIA Long-Term Car Park will be highly scarce as it could be full sooner than scheduled every day, KLIA has stated.

All KLIA Express and KLIA Transit services are available to reach the area of the Airport, and then there are scheduled KLIA Race-weekend Shuttle services available for fans.

The difference is that KLIA Transit are stopping at the Salak Tinggi station, while KLIA Ekspres moves from KL Sentral to KLIA.

Sepang F1 Shuttle Bus Guide

Race-weekend shuttle services are operating between the circuit and designated transport hubs.

The main shuttle locations include:

  • KLIA Terminal 2 Transportation Hub
  • KLIA Long-Term Car Park
  • Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA
  • De-Village @ Enstek

The course-desk drop-off schedule with 115 free external buses is available and is pictured on the published race-weekend plan from 7am until midnight on October 2-4. The circuit has a number of internal shuttle services.

Friday’s traffic caused heavy delays, though, with buses being delayed leaving the club by some fans. Since then, Rapid KL and SIC have changed the arrangements to pick up and drop off passengers for the rest of the race weekend.

Allow Extra Time After the Race

The biggest challenge may be leaving rather than arriving.

Once the chequered flag is waved many thousands of spectators simultaneously exit. The fans are advised to refrain from tightly packed runways soon after the race.

Sepang F1 Parking: What Fans Need to Know

The situation is limited parking and according to existing information from the race-week of the network, there are no space available for the official circuit parking. It is recommended that those who do not have a valid parking pass should not drive directly to Sepang International Circuit.

It is also banned for motorcycles from entering the SIC area this Formula 1 weekend as part of the new traffic-management plan.

If you already have a valid parking pass:

  1. Carry the required pass and identification.
  2. Follow police and marshal instructions.
  3. Arrive well before the main sessions.
  4. Do not assume your usual circuit entrance will remain accessible.

Sepang F1 Road Closures and Traffic Diversions

Police Screening Points

Four screening points for vehicles into SIC have been placed and a fifth is still being set up. Some of them are around the KLIA, Jalan Pekeliling, Masjid Roundabout, Kota Warisan, Enstek. Vehicle passes and access sticker checks will be performed on vehicle prior to entering circuit area.Vehicle passes and access sticker will be checked for tickets.

Police are also diverting traffic in the lead up to the three day event between 08:00 and 11:00 pm. People driving on roads have been asked to take alternative routes and the directions on the ground.

The Embassy of Japan in Malaysia’s travel advisory has also warned that congestion may affect roads around Sepang and highways connecting central Kuala Lumpur with KLIA.
