Bangkok’s Transport Overhaul Paves Way for Smarter City Travel

Bangkok is undertaking a huge re-organization of transport in order to modernise its mass transport and alleviate congestion. The strategy relies on online ticketing, restructured bus schedules and other extensions of the metros to make a sustainable and quick city. Technologies and improved infrastructure would assist authorities in making the type of transport more convenient and efficient and environmentally friendly. The developments are also characterized in terms of the transfer of strategic bus stations and also growth in rail connectivity in order to make the connection between the cities and suburbs better. All this is a drastic step to transforming a commuter based city into a smart city in Bangkok.

Smart Ticketing Upgrades

Contactless card and QR-code payments will also be introduced in the metro and rail systems of the city of Bangkok. These will make the task of collecting fares, wasting time especially in queues easier as well as offer people using the transport system an effective mode of transporting people in and out of different modes of transport. Digital ticketing is a significant step in the direction of a smart and efficient mobility space by the city.

Route and Infrastructure Changes

Bangkok is restructuring its bus systems and is working on its rail infrastructure with the same changes as with the digital. Ekkamai and Mo Chit 2 are major nodes where migration to new central hubs is being undertaken in order to enhance the accessibility between cities. The other projects involve building more metro tracks to boost the traffic in the business areas and the peripheral quarters.
