China vows to give assistance to ASEAN in fighting against Covid-19

China has given its pledge to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to continue its assistance in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic as Beijing made sure to stay committed in making its SARS-CoV-2 vaccines for the global public.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said that in the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (SACFMM) held on Monday at Chongqing, China.

In a statement, the DFA said that China will continue its assistance to the ASEAN Members States (AMS) in battling the Covid-19 pandemic which is primarily by providing vaccines.

China has extended its vaccines toward ASEAN countries as well as part of the combined effort in development and production of vaccines.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese government along with several companies have been organizing vaccine cooperation efforts in various countries through donation, export and join production in order to help in advocating the equitable and appropriate global distribution of vaccines.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said that China holds on to its belief that the vaccines being the powerful weapon in fighting against the Covid-19 must be made to be a global public good in order to help and reach more people in greater lengths.

Wang said that China has given vaccines as donations to more than 80 developing countries which are in dire need of the vaccine doses. China also sent out these doses to more than 40 countries and provided about 350 million doses to global cooperative partners.

He also added that China vows to make the vaccines a global public good to benefit more people and that it will give its best to provide more doses to other countries. He also said that they will be supporting Chinese vaccine companies in joint production of the vaccine with other developing countries. There were also several ASEAN members which turned to China for assistance to put the virus under control.
