Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, the owner of Twitter, the founder of the Boring Company, the co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI, and the president of the Musk Foundation, has said that his new artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAI, will be able to “understand the universe.”
On Friday, Elon Musk discussed his vision for his new AI firm xAI for the first time. He said that the purpose of the company was to understand the universe. In a 90-minute long Twitter Spaces audio chat, said that xAI sought to deepen the understanding of the universe, including the Earth’s evolution and the fragility of civilization.
On Wednesday, tech billionaire Elon Musk announced the formation of xAI. He said that xAI would seek to build a “good AGI”, saying that AGI stands for artificial general intelligence.
Musk accused other AI companies of training their models using Twitter data, calling it illegal. He accused OpenAI and Google of developing AI and technology without considering risks to humans.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk has repeatedly said that AI should be paused and the sector should be regulated. He said that unregulated AI had the potential for “civilizational destruction.”
After the launch of his new AI firm, Musk announced his plan for building a safe AI. He said that his new AI company xAI would seek to create a “maximally curious” AI.
The world’s richest person said, “If it tried to understand the true nature of the universe, that’s actually the best thing that I can come up with from an AI safety standpoint. I think it is going to be pro-humanity from the standpoint that humanity is just much more interesting than not-humanity.”
During the Twitter Spaces session, Musk said that his new AI firm may also work with his automotive and clean energy company Tesla on AI software.
