Everything You Need To Know About The Asian Games 2023

After an absence caused by the epidemic that was coronavirus that lasted a year, the much awaited and grand sporting event Asian Games are returned. The scope of this sports spectacle, which is only surpassed by the Olympics, will allow participants from 45 different countries to compete in 481 events spread across 40 different disciplines.

Asian Games history extends back to 1951, when the first games were staged in New Delhi, India. This quadrennial event, now in its 19th iteration, has been hosted by nine different countries. Surprisingly, 46 countries have participated in these games over the years, demonstrating their global appeal.

A Pathway to the 2024 Olympics

Beyond being a celebration of sport, the astonishing Asian Games 2023 serve as a crucial Olympic qualifier. A total of 74 Olympic quotas are up for grabs in nine sporting disciplines, including archery, boxing, tennis, and more. Winning athletes will secure their spots at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Schedule, Venue, and Early Action

Most events at the grand Asian Games will commence after the grand opening ceremony on September 23 in Hangzhou, China. However, team sports like football, cricket, beach volleyball, and volleyball will start earlier, on September 19. These events will set the stage for the epic sporting spectacle that follows.

Star Athletes to Watch

The Asian Games 2023 promises to be a stage where star athletes shine. In athletics, all eyes will be on India’s Neeraj Chopra, who faces tough competition from Japan’s Kitaguchi Haruka and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. High jumper Woo Sang-hyeok of South Korea and pole vaulter EJ Obiena of the Philippines will also be in the spotlight.

In badminton, world champions Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand and An Se-young of South Korea are the favorites. However, India’s Prannoy HS and Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi will challenge the reigning champions.
