Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dies at 92 in Delhi

India is mourning the loss of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He died at the age of 92 at a hospital in the capital Delhi on December 26. Reports suggest he had a sudden loss of consciousness at home.

Singh had been treated for age-related medical conditions. A member of the Indian National Congress, he served as Prime Minister for a couple of terms from 2004 – 2014. He also became the first Sikh Prime Minister of India.

Incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed the sudden loss of a distinguished leader in a post on X. “Rising from humble origins, he rose to become a respected economist,” PM Modi further mentioned.

Manmohan Singh served in different positions, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on India’s economic policies over the years. His family migrated to India during its partition in 1947. He obtained his doctorate in economics from Oxford.
