IGP said they’re ramping up efforts to track down sellers of false Covid vaccination certificates

Malaysia – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will step up inspections and surveillance to seek down anyone selling counterfeit Covid-19 immunization certificates in Malaysia.

Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Inspector-General of Police, said he couldn’t rule out the potential that such syndicates operated in other states aside from Terengganu.

According to him, as a result of this, he have given directions to the heads of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the states to perform intelligence work through Bukit Aman CID director (Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan) and Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director (Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din).

“This is to see if similar situations (the selling of bogus vaccination certificates) are happening elsewhere,” he remarked after visiting an education and early skills program for autistic children at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Center.

When asked about the selling of false vaccination certificates in Marang, Terengganu, he responded this.

According to Acryl Sani, the police have only discovered the case in Marang, Terengganu, thus far.

The Terengganu police said that they found out it was carried out by a male suspect, and they are investigating whether it occurred in other states, he added.

He also added that the matter was taken seriously by PDRM since it impacted the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19 across the country.

He noted that the PDRM does not want the government’s efforts and steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to be impeded by the activities of some parties that may jeopardize the country’s image.

Following complaints from the public, Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa said that a 51-year-old doctor was detained at his clinic in a raid conducted in collaboration with the Terengganu Health Department. Since last Saturday, the suspect has been held in custody for three days, pending an investigation for cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
