Yap Ming Yang, a reptile lover from Malaysia, runs a pet-friendly cafe in the hopes that customers will develop an appreciation for scaly animals like snakes and lizards on par with their affection for hairier animals like dogs and cats.
Species such as bearded dragons, leopard geckos, and corn snakes may be seen lounging in glass tanks stacked around Yap’s cafe on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. According to Yap, these are all species that are regularly bred in the country.
Clients, including youngsters, are allowed to pet and hold the scaly critters while they place their orders for food and drink.
“Thus, it is my sincere goal that by demonstrating to the general public how fascinating (they) are, we may be able to encourage them to have a more positive attitude toward reptiles and other animals that are not as well loved.”
The Southeast Asian nation is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species, but it is also a major contributor to the illegal wildlife trade.
