Is poor internet connection a hurdle for Filipino workers using AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI), the intelligence of machines or software, is gaining momentum in the Philippines. Filipino workers have also started adopting AI at work. AI offers various benefits but it also has certain negative effects on workers.

A 2023 study conducted by The Economist Impact revealed that 42% of Filipino employees want to learn AI to excel in their careers. However, the Philippines’ poor internet infrastructure is affecting Filipino workers.

Reportedly, around 41% of Filipinos said that poor internet access was a hurdle for them. Another study by LinkedIn found that Filipino workers gave importance to AI.

Poor internet connection in the Philippines

The Philippines lags behind other developing countries in Asia in terms of internet connectivity. Internet connectivity has always been a problem for people in the Philippines. Under such circumstances, it will be difficult for them to excel in the field of AI.

AI can help people in the Philippines by promoting collaboration among the government officials, industry, academia, and the public. AI is already helping various sectors across the world, especially in logistics, human resource, education, cybersecurity, and customer service.

With good internet connection, Filipino workers can learn AI. AI can also help protect IT systems and improve workers’ skills.

AI also has certain negative effects. Artificial intelligence increases the risks of hacking. If AI algorithms are built with a bias or the data, they will provide biased results. AI also poses great ethical challenges. In this scenario, Filipino workers must use AI effectively.

Did you experience slow internet connection? This problem might get solved because President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has repeatedly vowed to intensify efforts to address the problems of slow internet connectivity. He also planned various initiatives to advance the digital economy

Poor internet connection can be a problem for people in the Philippines in various sectors. The government needs to adopt various measures to solve this problem.
