Taking place on March 1, the Kai Tak Sports Park opening ceremony is going to feature performers such as film star Donnie Yen Ji-dan and Cantopop idol Joey Yung Cho-yee, in addition to mainland Chinese table tennis champion Fan Zhendong.
Hong Kong authorities have promised to take strict action against scalpers selling tickets for the opening ceremony, as passes are reportedly being sold for as high as HK$1,800 on the secondary market, reported SCMP.
The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism has urged residents to remain vigilant as 8,500 tickets – priced at HK$10 each – got sold out in just 30 minutes through official channels. If anyone sells the tickets at a high price, this constitutes scalping.
Local media earlier reported that tickets for the upcoming opening ceremony had been put on sale for up to HK$1,800 by users on Carousell. It must be emphasized here that physical tickets shall be accessible for collection only three days before the ceremony.
The Minister further stressed that residents purchasing tickets from scalpers are only encouraging the practice to continue, adding that those missing out on tickets can check out the broadcast on 4 local TV stations.
