Katy Perry is daring to go where few pop stars have gone before. Just days after a very public space trip, the 40 year old is ready to embark on her sci-fi themed Lifetimes Tour in Mexico City on April 23. It’s the most recent action in what’s already been a busy year for Perry which included the release of her album 143, joining Kamala Harris on the campaign trail and a lot of media analysis.
Even with the backlash surrounding her for the most recent project and collaborations like getting back into business with producer Dr. Luke, Perry remains unfazed. “I can only take ownership of what’s in my control” she said as she reflected on her personal motto in an interview with the Associated Press. The fact Perry has managed to come back again and again since her 2008 mainstream smash I Kissed a Girl is indicative of her grit, reminiscent of her empowering anthem Roar.
The Lifetimes Tour, which was influenced by films such as Blade Runner and The Fifth Element has Perry taking the stage as a video game heroine fighting off evil. The 80 date tour promises a fun, upbeat but modern twist, adding dance extras to Perry’s greatest hits collection. With the tour around the corner Perry jokes to the audience about wearing sensible shoes for the show.
This tour is so much about Perry’s spiritual side. Her practice in transcendental meditation shows how she’s taken an interest in astrology, enneagrams and she calls her inner space journey. After becoming a mother, she adds that has brought her even more firmly into her feminine divine.
Perry calls the tour “Disneyland on wheels” and says it’s all about love and empowerment and promises to deliver that same spark to fans the same one they felt when they first listened to Teenage Dream.
