Lithuanian Star Alekna Sets Jaw Dropping 75.56m Discus World Record

Lithuanian discus sensation Mykolas Alekna delivered all time great history at the Oklahoma Throws Series in Ramona, USA on April 13, 2025 when he shattered his own world record with a huge throw of 75.56 meters. At just 22 years of age, he became the first ever athlete in history to break through the 75 meter barrier in men’s discus reshaping the sport’s boundaries and establishing himself as a generational talent.

Alekna did not lose any time in displaying his dominance, beginning the competition with a throw of 74.89m which was already bettering his own world record of 74.35m at the same venue a year ago. Two fouls in the second and third attempts, finally resulted in a fourth round effort in an astonishing 75.56m heave that stunned the spectators and marked a new world standard.

Australia’s Matthew Denny, the Olympic bronze medalist also gave good competition with a personal best throw of 74.78m which also broke Alekna’s 2024 record. But Denny had to be content with the second position, as Alekna’s effort was beyond anyone’s reach.

The son of two time Olympic gold medalist legend Virgilijus Alekna, Mykolas has carried on his family’s tradition with great composure and strength. He already has a silver medal from the 2022 World Championships and a bronze medal in 2023 marking him as a rising force on the world athletics platform.

Now with a world record that might stand for years Alekna’s name is well and truly in the books. His meteoric rise at such a tender age indicates that this may only be the start of a golden era for men’s discus dominated by a Lithuanian giant rewriting what was previously believed to be impossible.
