President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday made a commitment of unflinching support to safeguard women’s rights and ensure their advancement on International Women’s Day. In his message Marcos commended the resilience and strength of Filipino women, highlighting their crucial role in building the country’s history.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month, we honor the countless Filipino women who have fought for justice, equality and the betterment of society” Marcos said. He recognized the struggles and achievements of women through generations, from the babaylans and katipuneras to the frontliners, professional pioneers and visionary leaders of today.

The President emphasized that his government’s dream of a “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines) would ever be a defender of women’s rights and would actively resist any attempts to hamper their development. He went on to assure that efforts aimed at empowering women and motivating the next generation will be pursued relentlessly, calling upon society to realize the revolutionary contribution women make for nation improvement.

With this, the government will also keep on sharing the stories of outstanding women, giving pride and inspiration to young girls all over the country. Marcos again emphasized that women’s efforts are an immovable force that cares, endures and re-shapes the society.

March is not just National Women’s Month but also a month to advocate gender equality and look back at international agreements that uphold women’s rights. The Philippines continues to adhere to international and domestic initiatives such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Sustainable Development Goals.
