The Royal Barge Procession is a ceremonial event in Thailand that is one of the most important and significant events in the country’s history.
If you’re planning to be there during the Royal Barge Procession 2026 you should be aware of any access restrictions on the river, public transport options and security measures.
Equally important to the ceremony is respectful behavior, especially in proximity to royal and religious sites, due to its cultural significance.
Royal Barge Procession 2026 Date and Ceremony Route
The procession is normally linked with royal religious ceremonies that were conducted along the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun. It is important for spectators to check with the official 2026 schedule and route with Thailand’s Public Relations Department prior to travelling as access will depend on ceremonial requirements.
Free Riverbank Viewing Spots Along the Chao Phraya
The possible public viewing spots are the vicinity of Phra Arthit Pier, Tha Maharaj and the riverside where the Wat Arun is located. But given that it is free access, it requires official crowd control. Don’t assume that all walkways along a river or temple entrances are open during the ceremony.
Free Shuttle Buses and Bangkok Transport Routes
On November 6, Bangkok’s BMTA will be running free shuttle buses from 11 AM to 6 PM from Payap Pier to various locations in the city. Visitors are advised to take alternative means of transport wherever possible, exercise extra travel time and be aware of the ceremonial restrictions on river ferries.
Royal Barge Procession Viewing Rules and Safety Tips
The parade will leave Wasukri Pier around 3 PM with 52 barges and some 2,200 naval personnel. Spectators should arrive early, dress appropriately and follow security guidelines. The viewing areas are reserved for the Navy and reservations are required in advance in the Navy areas, or the viewing areas are public along the river, and admission is free.
