Trump Dismisses France’s Palestine Recognition Plan as Meaningless

US President Donald Trump has sharply condemned the move by his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to recognize Palestine to be recognized as a state. Trump dismissed the plan by Macron to recognize Palestine as something meaningless and that nothing will ever be altered. This is a sign of increasing tension in the policy of America and France in the Middle East. The problem of France Palestine recognition has caused diplomatic tension between the two allies.

Trump’s Response to France’s Palestine Recognition

On a press briefing in the white house held on Friday, Trump waved off the news of Macron recognizing Palestine. Trump told reporters when asked about France’s plan to recognize Palestine as a state at the UN General Assembly later in September.

Trump termed Macron as a very good guy but stated that the statement of his recognition of Palestine “does not hold any weight”. According to suggestions made by the US President. “What he says does not count. This is not going to make a difference”, as Trump explained the recognition of Palestine by Macron.

Macron’s Moral Stand on Palestine Recognition

French President Macron was experiencing a recent development that worried him as a result of the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, when he announced the plan of his country to recognize Palestine. According to Macron, he had a moral obligation to help Palestine’s recognition because he had seen death and starvation in the Gaza region.

The France-Palestine recognition process leaves Macron on the same side as the United States, Israel, and most of the French Jewish groups. The earlier French presidents had not adopted a very tough stance on recognizing Palestine.

The decision by Macron to recognize Palestine has not been made at a good time, when Hamas is still engaging in activity in Gaza and when Palestinian statehood is unlikely to occur. Nonetheless, the French leader thinks that the recognition of Palestine by France is mandatory to retain the hopes of a two-state solution.

Speaking in the UN General Assembly, the France Palestine recognition plan will be fronted by Macron, on which he hopes that other states will rally behind the recognition of the Palestinian statehood despite US objections.
