“UAE’s 6G Leap – Powering Tomorrow’s Innovation”

The United Arab Emirates has achieved a historic feat in that it became the first country in the Middle East that successfully tested 6G technology. The experiment that was pioneered by e& UAE in collaboration with New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) reached a record speed of 145 gigabits per second (Gbps) at Terahertz (THz) frequencies. This groundbreaking test shows the will of the UAE to become the most innovative state in the world and spread new communications technology of the next level. It also creates the conditions of the transformative uses such as holographic telepresence, extended reality and autonomous systems and the vision of the connected and intelligent future of the nation.

Technological Firsts: A Regional Milestone in 6G Trials

The 6G provided with a successful demonstration in the UAE is the first in the region and it is also a major step toward very fast wireless communication. The trial was enabled by the experiment which utilized AI-native networking, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and THz spectrum which allowed the experiment to achieve speeds that were unattainable with the 5G.

This project is part of the strategic partnership between the UAE and NYUAD which is geared towards research, development and knowledge exchange in the 6G technologies. It was proved by the experiment that ultra-low latency and enormous capacity of 6G would enable the next-generation digital experiences and industrial efficiencies in the future.

Applications, Benefits, and Future Roadmap

The 6G pilot featured diverse new applications, such as holographic telepresence and digital twins, extended reality (XR) and highly precise positioning in autonomous vehicles. It also underscored the potential of the technology to provide quantum-secure communications and offer protection to the national infrastructure against the emergent cyber threats.

In the future, 6G will be used to create intelligent, sustainability and immersive connectivity, combining satellite and aerial systems together to ensure full coverage of all landscapes without interruption.

To promote further insights to the rest of the world, the partners published a white paper named Build fabric of 6G Spectrum frontiers and Enabling Technologies, detailing essential enablers of global 6G standards. This success makes the UAE one of the strongest, wireless innovation hubs in the world, connecting the scholarly and industrial developments.
