Why the US wants China to support Israel after Hamas attacks

The United States called on the People’s Republic of China to support Israel after Hamas militants launched an attack on Israelis on Saturday.

Why does the United States want China to support Israel after Hamas attacks? What did U.S. Senate Majority Leader say? Will China support Israel?

On Monday, Chuck Schumer, Majority Leader of the United States Senate, urged China to extend support to Israel. Chuck Schumer said that he was “disappointed” because China did not show sympathy to Israelis amid the conflict.

Why does the United States want China to support Israel?

The United States has been negotiating to finalize the normalization deal between Israel and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, said that the talks on the normalization deal cannot be finalized without resolving Palestinian problems. Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud said, “For us, the Palestinian issue is very important.”

Israel is important for the United States. Hence, the US wants China to support Israel.

What did China say?

Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, China’s foreign ministry urged the two parties to be calm. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We call on relevant parties to end the hostilities to protect civilians.”

However, China did not name the Hamas militants. The militant group Hamas was already designated a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union.

Israel-Hamas conflict

On Saturday, Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an offensive against Israel from the Gaza Strip. The group broke the Gaza–Israel barrier and went into nearby Israeli settlements.

The conflict has already killed 700 people. Israel declared a “state of war” after Hamas launched the attack. Subsequently, Hamas launched attacks on 22 locations.

An eight-year-old child was also injured by the conflict. A German woman was paraded naked by the Hamas group in a truck. Her mother asked for help for her daughter.
