Supported Banks for Apple Pay in the Philippines
Apple has partnered with several large banks in the Philippines as well as banking services providers, for the initial launch, to allow for Apple Pay features. The UnionBank, GoTyme Bank, Metrobank and China Bank customers will now be able to add eligible Credit / Debit cards to the Apple Wallet.
It is believed Apple is planning to include more financial institutions, and banks like BPI and EastWest said they would gain access to the latest updates. It’s best to call your bank before adding a card to be sure that Apple Pay works with that card.
What You Need Before Setting Up Apple Pay?
Be sure your device and account meets Apple’s requirements before you activate Apple Pay. It requires the newest updates to iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac that support Touch ID, namely iPhone 6 or later running the latest version of iOS or watchOS, or iPad or Mac with Touch ID running the latest version of macOS.
You must log in to your Apple ID with iCloud and have Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode set up on your device. You will also require the mobile number on your bank as most card issuances use one-time password (OTP) to verify new cards.
How to use Apple pay on your iPhone?
Getting Apple Pay up and running on an iPhone is very easy. Open the Wallet app, go to the upper right corner and tap on the “+” icon. Choose Debit/Credit Card and scan it with your phone’s camera or type in your card details.
If they confirm your card information, check and agree to your bank’s terms and conditions. The verification then takes place with an OTP or mobile banking verification by your bank. With validation, your card will be able to be used for contactless transactions.
Customers who can also add eligible cards, for instance, through the mobile banking app with their preferred participating banks such as UnionBank and GoTyme Bank, can use the Add to Apple Wallet option for this.
Setting Up Apple Pay on Apple Watch
On an Apple Watch’t, add the same card via your paired iPhone’s Apple Watch app. Click on Wallet & Apple Pay and add a card.

When using Apple Pay, you can make a payment anywhere that an NFC-enabled contactless deposit can be accepted. There are already a lot of businesses like retailers, supermarkets, coffee stores, convenience stores and restaurants in the Philippines that accept tap-to-pay transactions.

To use it, touch ID users must only put their finger on the sensor while holding their cell phone against the reader.
