Netflix has announced that Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will be releasing worldwide on February 12, 2027. The fantasy adventure will now be a more traditional release, alongside IMAX venues. The official Netflix Tudum announcement confirms the schedule, offering viewers even more chances to enjoy Gerwig’s ambitious adaptation on the big screen.
IMAX Preview Dates and Exclusive Theatrical Window
Special IMAX previews open Feb. 10, 2027, two days before general release in theatres. The movie will then enjoy an estimated 49 day exclusive in theaters prior to release online. The deal is a major blow to Netflix’s streaming-heavy distribution model, Screen Daily reports.
Netflix Premiere Date and Why Plans Changed
It was announced that the Narnia premiere for Netflix would be in April 2027, which will now be the date and not in Christmas 2026, as it planned. The release of the original November 2026 IMAX release was also delayed. The new release plan gives the movie a broader theatrical rollout prior to its release to subscribers around the world, according to Variety.
Greta Gerwig’s Cast and New Narnia Adventure
Gerwig’s adaptation focuses on the making of Narnia, through the eyes of Digory and Polly. David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell lead the cast, alongside Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep. The Netflix official film page describes it as an “ambitious fantasy adventure inspired by the beloved novel by C.S. Lewis.
