On October 30, 2026, Mayon Volcano in Albay erupted, causing the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to increase its alert level to 3.
The eruption took place around 11:53 a.m. Philippine Time, creating an ash column that was approximately 3,000 metres high above the crater.
The communities have drawn up the restricted areas, evacuation routes and allowed shelters on the Mayon Evacuation Map and that is now a reference.
Mayon Evacuation Map: Six-Kilometre PDZ Boundaries
PHIVOLCS established a Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of 6 kilometres radius around the crater of Mayon. The eruption hazards, rockfalls and potentially dangerous volcanic flows preclude entry. District maps must be used to determine distances; residents should not make their own estimates.
What Mayon Volcano Alert Level 3 Means
Alert Level 3 means that there is increased volcanic unrest and the likelihood of hazardous eruptions. The event of October 30 produced a significant ash cloud that further heightened concerns for possible explosive eruptions and conditions in the immediate vicinity of the volcano.
Albay Evacuation Centers and Safe Shelter Locations
Those who were asked to evacuate should report to the shelters as detailed by the provincial and municipal disaster office of Albay. Individual locations must be confirmed before travelling; School buildings and public facilities may be used as temporary centres.
Safety Guidelines for Families Near Mayon Volcano
Families should stock up on needed medications, identification, drinking water and emergency supplies. Stay off of restricted roads, avoid ash fall and avoid river channels that can be affected by lahar flow. Do not follow unverified social media maps, but abide by the evacuation and advice of the local government and/or PHIVOLCS.
