In Southeast Asia, the push for frictionless travel is still on. The Cambodian Government Tourism Authority has officially completed the most ambitious entry framework it has ever had since the border was reopened to global tourism. The strategic deployment of the plan is to remove traditional barriers to entry of the regional economies to high-yield traveler segments.
The programme starts as a pilot structural test. This temporary approach allows for a streamlined process for those who meet specific criteria, eliminating the need for a conventional tourist visa. Local governments are aiming to reduce the backlog in the processing and to make the most of the increased traffic ahead of the busy international holiday season.
The framework of the trial operates under certain conditions set by the Prime Minister’s office. As per the structural policy issued by the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism, the program will be conducted during a specific period from June 15 to October 15, 2026. This enables border security networks to do trials of high-volume processing.
The main trial phase aims to target passengers arriving from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. At a recent press briefing, Minister of Tourism Huot Hak confirmed that this initial focus is an intentional test block. The government is ready to give the same benefit to all Europeans who are traveling as well if the internal security data and commercial KPIs are in line with the regional indicators.
For years, visitors on weekends and holidays were required to pay a minimum $30 fee for an electronic permit or an arrival stamp. This administrative expense will be reduced to zero in the new pilot program running for the next 4 months. This structural change is very beneficial for multi-generational families or teams of employees on a business trip.
While the standard visa payment is temporarily gone, international arrivals must still comply with modernized border safety screening protocols.
For maintaining tight border integrity, without physical paperwork bottlenecks, all of the individual travellers using the trial framework must apply online through the official digital Cambodia e-Arrival Portal before departure. Health logs, customs declarations, and identification records are captured in one step in this centralized database securely.
The immigration desks of primary airports in Phnom Penh, Sihanouk, and the new airport in Siem Reap, Angkor International Airport, will apply the normal security procedures. Passports must have at least two blank pages for entry and be valid for at least six months from the date of travel. Full legal rights to request a verified onward return plane ticket are also given to frontline officers.
This temporary entry waiver is legally restricted to leisure and short-term business exploration. The Cambodian General Department of Immigration has clarified that individuals cannot convert this 14-day stay into long-term work permits or residency tracks. Overstaying will result in heavy daily fines and immediate blacklisting.

The government wants to address the friction of entry to the hospitality pipeline, which is an ongoing business. Moreover, it can serve to further position the country as a safe and high-quality tourist destination after the recent crackdown on transnational scams in the Mekong region.
Yes. Allows for unlimited multiple entries during the 4-month operational period (no longer than 14 days per person).
No. All immigration and health check paperwork has been phased out of the country and replaced by the online e-Arrival process.
A tourist e-Visa or business e-Visa (B2 visa) for an extended stay (more than 14 days) will not be granted if the period of stay is for more than 14 days, in this case, the applicant must pass the trial waiver phase.
