Covid-19: Military to help enforce movement control order

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) may be mobilised if to assist the police enforce the Movement Control Order (MCO) over COVID-19, says Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang.

According to the general, a meeting between Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador were held on how the army can help the police who have been shouldering a heavy burden since the MCO until March 31.

Malaysian Defense Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said it is important to prevent the spread of the virus.

However, police chiefs pointed out that during the week that people were moving around despite Muhyiddin’s order.

“If the compliance rate remains low, there is a big possibility that the military will be used to make sure there’s proper implementation.” He added.

Movement Control Order (MCO), a measure imposed by PM Muhyiddin will run until the end of the month banning non-essential workplaces will urging the people to stay at home. Malaysia has reported 790 cases of COVID-19 as of the moment,  with nearly 60 recoveries and 2 deaths.
